Cooling & Anion Sanitary Pads

A regional formulation, not a global one. Cooling pads sell hard in Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Gulf, where a menthol or herbal top sensation reads as freshness. In Northern Europe the same product struggles, because buyers there read any added sensation as irritation risk. Stock the SKU only where the market already expects it.

Cooling pads are a regional product, and treating them as a global SKU is the most common mistake made with this range. In Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Gulf, a menthol or herbal sensation on the topsheet reads as freshness and sells at a premium. In Northern Europe and North America, the same sensation reads as irritation risk and the product sits on the shelf.

Stock it where the market already expects it. Do not introduce it.

What "cooling" means in practice

Menthol film A micro-encapsulated menthol layer on or under the topsheet, released on contact with moisture
Herbal essence strip A printed strip carrying a botanical blend; the sensation is milder and the claim is easier to word
Gel core A hydrogel layer that feels cool on contact without any active ingredient — the safest wording, the weakest sensation

The three are not interchangeable on a specification sheet, because the sensation strength, the cost and the regulatory exposure all differ. A menthol film is the strongest and the most heavily regulated; a gel core is the weakest and the easiest to document.

The compliance line you must not cross

Cooling products attract exactly the kind of wording that turns a hygiene article into a regulated claim. The words to avoid on pack, unless you have the documentation to support them:

  • Antibacterial, bacteriostatic, antimicrobial
  • Anti-inflammatory, soothing, healing
  • Prevents infection, reduces odour-causing bacteria
  • Far infrared, magnetic, negative ion treatment

What you can say, safely, is what the product physically does: cooling sensation, fresh feeling, menthol-infused topsheet. Those are sensory descriptions, not health claims.

Worth knowing

Several of the references in our own stock program carried anion and magnetic wording from their original listings. We have removed that language from this catalogue deliberately. If you need those claims for a specific market, they have to be supported by test documentation for that market, and we will ask for it before printing.

Where this range sells

Southeast AsiaThe core market. Cooling is a mainstream expectation and a premium cue; menthol film builds outsell plain pads in several countries.
South Asia & GulfStrong summer seasonality. Buyers often stock cooling as a seasonal SKU alongside a standard pad rather than replacing it.
Northern marketsNiche at best, usually positioned as a postpartum or post-exercise product rather than a mainstream period pad.

Buyer questions

What is the difference between menthol and herbal cooling?

Menthol film uses micro-encapsulated menthol released on contact with moisture; the sensation is strong and the regulatory exposure is highest. A herbal strip carries a botanical blend with a milder sensation and easier wording. A gel core feels cool on contact with no active ingredient at all — safest, weakest.

Can we say the pad is antibacterial?

Not without market-specific test documentation, and we will ask for it before printing. Cooling products attract exactly that claim. Describe what the product does — cooling sensation, fresh feeling — rather than what it prevents.

Which markets buy cooling pads?

Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Gulf, where freshness reads as a premium cue. Buyers there often stock cooling as a seasonal SKU alongside a standard pad rather than replacing it.

Why did you remove anion and magnetic wording from this catalogue?

Because those are health-adjacent claims that are hard to support in EU and North American markets, and several of the original listings carried them as keywords rather than as tested features. If a specific market needs them, they require documentation for that market.

Do cooling pads cost more to produce?

Yes, by roughly the cost of the active layer plus a step on the line. The premium over a standard pad of the same length is small in absolute terms, which is why the retail price premium is usually larger than the cost premium.

Sampling before you commit

We do not ask buyers to order from a table. Send the build you are considering and we courier a physical sample with its specification sheet, so absorbency and hand feel are checked before a purchase order exists.
